The 11th Street "Green" House in Riverside, California is the first LEED Platinum Home ever built by Habitat for Humanity. Jon Dougal, the Sustainability Director at Habitat for Humanity Riverside, discusses the techniques and technologies used in the construction. I wonder if there is any data regarding the cost to build a house like this?
My first reaction as to why more people don't build houses similar to this (especially low income - assuming they can even get a mortgage) is because of the bottom line.
Habitat for humanity does a great thing by helping certain families in need, but, I really can't see a house like this one ever being considered affordable.
